According to a recent report from Sport Bild, Bayern Munich will no longer be pursuing deal for Juventus forward Mario Mandzukic. The former Bayern star had been heavily linked with a return to German football over the course of the last few days, but now, it seems as if he’s going to be staying put – or, at the very least, not choosing Bayern as his next destination.
This is because they’ve now confirmed the loan signing of Philippe Coutinho, and while the two men don’t exactly play the same kind of role within their style of play, it seems like Coutinho has filled up the superstar quota that Munich were looking to implement in the summer transfer window.
Coutinho is certainly a risky signing for Bayern, but even with that being the case, his age and skill appear to have factored into the decision ahead of anything else.
Mandzukic, on the other hand, probably only has one major transfer left in him before he decides to hang up his boots for good.
