Bayern play down Lewandowski rumours

Bayern Munich have denied they have reached an agreement to sign Robert Lewandowski from Borussia Dortmund.

The Poland international’s agent Maik Barthel stated on Thursday that the striker wants to leave Dortmund in the off-season and had already agreed personal terms with another club, leading to speculation that Lewandowski was set to join Bayern.

However, the newly crowned Bundesliga champions have stressed there is no truth in the reports claiming they had secured Lewandowski’s signature.

“Bayern Munich have taken notice of various reports about Robert Lewandowski and want to make it clear that Lewandowski does not have a contract with Bayern,” a statement on the club’s official website read.

The 24-year-old striker, who fired Dortmund to a 4-1 win over Real Madrid in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final, has a contract with the club until the end of the 2013-14 season, but he has reportedly told the Westfalenstadion outfit that he has no intention of extending his deal.

Lewandowski is widely expected to leave Dortmund at the end of the campaign, with Bayern, Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus all said to be interested in his services.

Dortmund were dealt a huge blow earlier this week when star midfielder Mario Gotze announced that he will leave the club for Bayern in July.
