Holders Bayern Munich face an all-Bundesliga tie with Hannover at the Allianz Arena in the second round of the DFB-Pokal.
A Thomas Mueller hat-trick helped Pep Guardiola’s side to a 5-0 win over Schwarz-Weiss Rehden in the first round, but Hannover should provide a much sterner test of their credentials.
The draw produced just one other all top-flight encounter, with last year’s losing finalists Stuttgart set to travel to the Mage Solar Stadion to take on Freiburg.
Stuttgart comfortably beat BFC Dynamo 2-0 in the opening round, while Freiburg produced the same scoreline to knock out Neustrelitz.
Borussia Dortmund continue their hunt for cup success with a tricky tie away at the Allianz Arena to face Bundesliga 2 side 1860 Munich.
Jurgen Klopp’s side opened with a 3-0 victory against Wilhelmshaven but should face a more difficult task in round two.
Elsewhere, Bayer Leverkusen face an away trip to Arminia Bielefeld, while Kaiserslautern host Hertha Berlin.
Fixtures for the second round will take place on September 24/25.
Draw in full: Bayern Munich v Hannover, Freiburg v Stuttgart, 1860 Munich v Borussia Dortmund, Wolfsburg v Aalen, Arminia Bielefeld v Bayer Leverkusen, Hamburg v Greuther Furth, Frankfurt v Bochum, Hoffenheim v Energie Cottbus, Mainz v Koln, Kaiserslautern v Hertha Berlin, Preussen Munster v Augsburg, Darmstadt v Schalke, Frankfurt v Ingolstadt, Osnabruck v Union Berlin, Saarbrucken v Paderborn, Wiedenbruck v Sandhausen
