(GSM) -Bayern München maintain the club was never interested in signing Germany’s World Cup stars Sami Khedira and Mesut Özil.

After impressing at the World Cup, the pair moved to Real Madrid for cut-price deals as they were both approaching the end of their contracts at their clubs.

Bayern director of sport Christian Nerlinger revealed that the club is not convinced of the pair’s ability to break into the first-team and believes the German champions can count on the players who are currently at their disposal.

The pair, who subsequently joined Real Madrid in cut-price deals, had been linked to several clubs after a successful World Cup, with Bayern reportedly keen.

“If FC Bayern wants a player, then we are absolutely capable of signing him or keeping hold of him, there is no fear of a bidding war with (Madrid),” Nerlinger told Kicker magazine.

“We are 100 per cent convinced about Toni Kroos in the attacking midfield position and Thomas Müller has risen like a shooting star.

“We did not get to the stage where we wanted to talk to them [Khedira and Özil] or even make an offer because we were not convinced that they would make it to the top level.”
