Sport Bild has learned that Bayern Munich are stepping up their efforts to sign Moroccan defender Mehdi Benatia from AS Roma.
The Giallorossi are ready to cash in on their star player in case of a mega money offer and the Bavarians appear prepared to match the asking price.
Bayern had been showing interest in Benatia the entire summer, but they have decided to act after Javi Martinez picked up a knee ligament injury.
Sport Bild understands that Bayern technical director Michael Reschke is already in Rome, trying to negotiate a deal that should see the 27-year-old move to Alianz Arena.
Mehdi Benatia only joined the Giallorossi from Udinese last summer, but he largely impressed in his first season at Stadio Olimpico.
The Morocco international was not only an important part of Serie A’s second-best defence, but also managed 5 goals in 33 league outings, proving his worth as one of world’s top centre-backs.
