Germany international Mats Hummels is set to sign a new long-term deal with Borussia Dortmund until 2016.
His current deal does not expire before June 2013, but the Borussia chiefs are keen to keep hold of their star player amidst interest from Bayern Munich.
The club chiefs realized that current release clause, which stands at just €8 million, could easily be matched by any of the interested clubs and that was the main reason behind offering him a new contract.
The two parties are reportedly close to reaching an agreement and Hummels is expected to sign a new contract in the next few days.
The 22-year-old defender has become an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s side after arriving from Bayern and he is widely recognized as one of the best centre-backs in Germany at the moment.
