Bayern Munich have given up on the idea of signing Kieran Trippier from Newcastle this winter, according to Le Parisien, and they’ve turned their attention to Galatasaray’s Sacha Boey instead.
Bayern have long been in search of a quality player for their right defensive flank, and it seemed for a while that Trippier was set to reunite with Harry Kane at the Allianz Arena. However, they obviously haven’t been able to make satisfactory progress on that front, and it seems they’ve finally shelved the file, as Newcastle boss Eddie Howe recently revealed Trippier had made no request to leave St. James’ Park.
As for Boey, at the age of 23, he represents more of a long-term option than Trippier (33) would have done. Having come through the youth ranks at Rennes, he had a loan spell with Dijon before joining Galatasaray in 2021 for just over €1 million. He’s represented the Turkish club on 83 occasions so far, and if the idea of playing for Bayern appeals to him, Galatasaray are likely to open their ears for offers, given that his contract is in its final 18 months.
