Bayern Munich striker Ivica Olic faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee injury, coach Louis van Gaal has revealed as the German giants begin their Bundesliga season on Friday.
Bayern will be without both their star striker Olic and winger Arjen Robben for Friday’s opening German league game of the season against Wolfsburg at Munich’s Allianz Arena with Robben out until October with a hamstring injury.
Croatia’s Olic is out for an indefinite period with a knee problem, which he picked up playing for his country against Slovakia and has been in pain ever since.
“It’s a nasty diagnosis,” said van Gaal.
“The doctor has decided on a conservative course of treatment, so there won?t be an operation, but that always takes a long time.”
Robben is currently away from Munich after being granted special leave from the club for the next 14 days and is not expected to play until October.
“Our chief medical officer Dr Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt has sent him on vacation.
“That?ll give him peace and quiet. I hope he?ll be able to resume training after that,” said van Gaal.
Bayern are also currently without centre-back Breno, who is still in rehab training after sustaining a cruciate ligament tear in March.
