(GSM) – Franz Beckenbauer has cooled talk that Bayern München could move to sign VfL Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko this summer.
Dzeko, who is the Bundesliga’s current top scorer for the season, has been strongly linked with a move to Bayern.
However, legendary former Germany star Beckenbauer thinks the club has plenty of options in attack and that the focus should be at the other end of the team.
“As much as I like Dzeko, Bayern do not need another striker,” he told Bild newspaper.
“On the contrary, when Luca Toni comes back from (his loan spell at) Roma, he will be added to the squad.
“Where we do need urgent strengthening, however, is in defence. We concede too many goals.
“We must also look for a goalkeeper. (Hans-Jorg) Butt has had a strong season but he is not one for the future.”
Bayern are currently sitting pretty at the top of the German top-flight and they can consolidate their position with a win over Hannover at the weekend.
