David Beckham will look for a short-term move to Europe over the winter in a bid to regain his spot in the England national team.
Beckham’s club the Los Angeles Galaxy do not start their new MLS season until March, meaning the 35-year-old must look elsewhere to keep up his match fitness and keep his name in England boss Fabio Capello’s thinking.
AC Milan has been Beckham’s club of choice the last two winters, but with a move back to the San Siro unlikely this year, the former England captain said he would look elsewhere for an opportunity.
“I won’t be going back to AC Milan this time because it is not possible to go onto the roster for such a short length of time,” he said.
“But I will be going back somewhere as I want to keep myself fit and keep myself in with a chance of getting called up for England again.”
“To do that, I have to be somewhere so fingers crossed I can sort something out.”
Beckham ruled out making a return to the English Premier League, despite several offers from clubs in his homeland.
Beckham said he would only return to England if it was to play for former side Manchester United.
“I have always missed playing in the Premier League since I left it almost eight years ago,” Beckham said.
“It is a great league and one of the most competitive in the world. Maybe one day I will come back here but I have always said that it will only be for Manchester United.”
“I am not holding my breath on that one, but we will have to wait and see. But definitely not Preston (where he played on loan as a teenager) – it’s too cold up there.”
Beckham’s last appearance for England was as a substitute in a World Cup qualifier against Belarus in October 2009, and although an Achilles injury forced him out of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, he has since made a successful return for the Galaxy.
“My body feels great after my injury,” Beckham said. “I always said I needed to get that back into order and keep my fitness and we will see.”
