David Beckham has refused to rule out a return to the England team, claiming he will still be checking for his name in the squad when he’s 60.

The former Manchester United man has not been selected for the Three Lions squad since 2009, but he remains confident he will represent his country again one day.

“I haven’t played for England for a while but part of that was injury,” Beckham said.

“I am still playing and still playing well. I am still fit and I have not retired from international football. I always said I want to be available even if I don’t get picked again.”

“If there are players injured or players out, if I am ever needed, of course I’d love to play for England again.”

“I’m never going to say it’s over for me, I’m sorry. I do believe I’l play for England again. I’ve got to say that.”

“I will probably still consider playing for England when I am 60 and squads are being announced, I will still be looking for my name.”

Despite his reluctance to accept his international career is over, Beckham says it is brilliant to see such young players being given a chance in the England team, and that’s the way it should be if England want to progress.

“It,s great that there are a lot of great midfielders,” he said.

“I’m not a bitter ex-player who is going to sit back and say I should be in there. If there are good young players, that’s the way it should be if we want to get better and win things.”

Another possible avenue Beckham could go down is the 2012 Olympics in London.

“I’d love to be in it for a number of reasons.”

‘I love representing my country. For the Olympics to be in the East End of London, I’ve got a lot of ties there. My dad played on Hackney Marshes, my grandad did, I did when I was a kid. The renovation that’s gone on around there is incredible.”

“I’d love to be part of it. The excitement will be all around the Olympics. You know what our fans are like. We’ll always have a full house.”

Meanwhile, with regards to his domestic football, LA Galaxy coach Alexi Lalas expects the midfielder to quit the MLS if Galaxy win the MLS title.

Beckham and his team are just two games away from the final, and the coach believes if Galaxy reach the final, and win, it will be Beckham’s last game for the club.

“He’ll go if he is standing with the cup raised above his head,” Lalas told reporters.
