Beitar Jerusalem likely to face disciplinary hearing

On Sunday with the score at 1 – 0 in favour of Beitar Jerusalem against Maccabi Herzliya, hundreds of fans stormed onto the pitch, resulting in the match being called off with only four minutes left on the clock. This was in spite of repeated appeals by the owner of the club Arkady Gaydamak.

This is not the first time in which the same fans have caused trouble. In May 2007 the Beitar fans were held back by the police as they attempted to invade the pitch. On that occasion there were dozens of injuries while two had to be hospitalised with serious injuries.

Had the game on Sunday been allowed to run its course it could have given the home side the league title. Instead they could be docked points.
