Promoted OH Leuven staged an upset in the opening match of the Belgian First Division season, coming from behind to beat Anderlecht 2-1.
Leuven, who reached the top tier as last season’s Second Division champions, fell behind to a goal from sought-after teenager Romelu Lukaku 37 minutes into Friday’s curtain-raiser at Stadion Den Dreef.
But the visitors were already a man down when they took the lead, following the sending off defender Denis Odoi two minutes earlier.
And the hosts ultimately made their man advantage count.
First they equalised courtesy of an own goal from Anderlecht’s Brazilian centre-back Samuel eight minutes into the second half.
The match looked to be heading for a draw, before Swedish striker Patrick Amoah struck in the last minute to snatch a dramatic victory for the newcomers in their first top-flight outing since 1950.
