Standard Liege have moved into the top four of the Belgian First Division table with a 2-0 win over Kortrijk on Friday.

After a deadlocked first-half in front of 22,000 fans at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne, Liege appeased the home fans in the 59th minute when 19-year-old forward Michy Batshuayi converted Jelle Van Damme’s assist.

The points were sewn up on 65 minutes when the provider turned goal-scorer as Van Damme’s strike sealed victory for the 10-time Pro League champions.

With a round of matches still to come, Liege move to fourth, three points clear of Club Brugge and Genk.

Kortrijk will remain in seventh position, still seven points behind sixth-placed Genk.

Liege face a tough battle to win their next match, with an away game against leaders Anderlecht next weekend.

With a two-game winning streak snapped by Liege, Kortrijk will welcome bottom-placed Cercle Brugge.
