Standard Liege broke a drought of three league losses in a row with a 2-1 victory over KVC Westerlo in the Belgium First Division on Saturday.

The hosts led after 15 minutes at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne when Reginal Goreux found the back of the net, before Jelle Van Damme doubled their lead just before half-time.

Christian Bruls pulled a goal back in the 71st minute but Westerlo were unable to find an equaliser.

Club Brugge consolidated fourth place after beating Germinal Beerschot 1-0 courtesy of a Ronald Vargas strike seven minutes into the second half.

Eupen continued KSC Lokeren’s poor run of results as the league’s 14th side upended the sixth-placed club with a 2-0 victory.

It was Lokeren’s fifth match without a win, while it was the first triumph in four for Eupen.

KV Kortrijk came from behind to defeat Cercle Brugge 2-1, with Guiseppe Rossini scoring the winner in the 90th minute.

Lierse won the battle of the cellar dwellers against bottom Royal Charleroi 1-0, moving eight points clear in second-last place courtesy of Wesley Sonck’s goal on 12 minutes.
