Zulte-Waregem are still in contention for a Europa League playoff berth after a 2-0 win over Kortrijk in the Belgian First Division on Friday.
Hugo Broos’ side were third in Group B of the Europa League playoff but climbed back to the top – ahead of Westerlo and Germinal Beerschot – with Friday’s victory at home.
Their lowly opponents last registered an away win in August and were expected to be beaten easily, which was the case.
Central African Republic striker Mahamadou Habibou got his side off to the perfect start with a goal after 13 minutes – his fourth in eight matches.
And nine minutes later, defender Karel D’Haene doubled Zulte-Waregem’s lead, putting them well on the way to victory less than a quarter of the way into the match.
Kortrijk manager Hein Vanhaezebrouck made changes to his side – though not to its front third – as his men attempted to find a way back into the encounter.
Kortrijk remain bottom of Group B, with just a solitary point from four matches.
