Anderlecht defender Cheikhou Kouyate admits he is surprised by the reported interest from Manchester City.
The 22-year-old defender has been in scintillating form this season and was subsequently linked with a move to Manchester City, but the player doesn’t believe he is ready to play at the biggest stage just yet.
“I’m not ready yet to join a club like Manchester City”, Kouyate said at a press conference. “I’ll probably be ready within a year or two.”
The Senegalese centre-back admits that he has a lot to learn before he can fight for a starting berth at a club like Manchester City.
“There’s a big gap between me and the players at City at the moment, like Lescott and Kompany.”
The Senegalese defender started his professional career at Brussels, where he spent just one season before signing a four-year deal with Anderlecht.
The player spent one season on loan at Kortrijk before getting a real chance at Constant Vanden Stock, but he has since managed to develop into an important player in Ariel Jacobs’ side.
Kouyate was followed by Arsenal, among other clubs, and he could soon get a chance to finally move to the English Premier League.
