(GSM) – Kortrijk moved to third place in the Belgian league following a 1-0 win over Mechelen while Standard Liege beat Cercle Brugge to jump to sixth.

Mechelen needed a win to climb to the top of the league but things did not go as planned as Boris Pandza directed the ball past his own goalkeeper after just ten minutes.

Kortrijk’s Sven Kums conceded a second yellow card shortly before the end of the first half but the home side survived the entire second to secure the three points and surpass both Mechelen and Gent.

Standard Liege got their second home win in a row, beating Cercle Brugge 2-0 at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne.

Mohamed Tchite netted the opener on five minutes, and Axel Witsel converted a penalty on the hour for 2-0. Cercle were a man down for most of the game as Hans Cornelis was red-carded after 37 minutes.
