Feyenoord technical director Leo Beenhakker has dismissed Craig Bellamy’s talks of a move to the Dutch giants as ‘nonsense’.
Manchester City striker Bellamy is on loan at Championship outfit Cardiff, who are four points behind leaders Queens Park Rangers.
Bellamy has said he would like to join Feyenoord if he is successful in gaining promotion to the English Premier League with Cardiff, but Beenhakker said he cannot discuss signing the combative 31-year-old while he is still under contract at Eastlands.
“I got him on the phone, I sent him a detailed text message, to ask him if he will stop the nonsense,” Beenhakker told Dutch sports newspaper AD Sportwereld.
“I said to him, ‘Friend, you can say anything you want, but while you are still owned by Manchester City, I cannot’.”
“I saw he said in the media, ‘Beenhakker takes me seriously’. That bothers me. There’s just a huge price tag on him. If it comes off, then we can talk.”
“It is as simple as that. As soon as he is free from his club, he knows where he can find me. Until then, these are cowboy stories.”
Bellamy is believed to hold a deep affinity for Feyenoord, having played at De Kuip for Newcastle earlier in his career.
