Bellamy to retire from international football

Craig Bellamy has announced that he is to retire from international football after the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Macedonia and Belgium, according to the Mirror.

The 34 year old has won seventy-six caps in an career that has spanned fifteen years with the Welsh side, and was awarded the national captaincy by John Toshack following the international retirement of Ryan Giggs.

He will now focus his attention on helping his hometown club Cardiff City remain in the English top flight.

The Bluebirds are currently fourteenth in the division, and Bellamy has played in all but one of their games so far this term, though he is yet to score.

Wales are unable to qualify for next summer’s tournament in Brazil, but will be keen to secure back to back wins that will ensure that they don’t finish bottom of their group.

Bellamy is 11/2 to open the scoring against Macedonia in Cardiff tomorrow evening.
