Portuguese giants Benfica are set to complete a deal for Penarol forward Jonathan Rodriguez, the Uruguayan side have revealed.

The Eagles were hot on the trail of the 21-year-old attacker for quite a while and they decided to make their interest concrete in the winter transfer window.

The lengthy negotiations seem to have finally produced results, with Penarol chief confirming the transfer was set to be wrapped up.

“It’s almost closed. We practically have an agreement for sale,” Betingo Sanguinetti told Radio Rock&Gol. “There are only operational details (left).”

The Penarol official also moved to reveal that Benfica would pay around €3.3 million for the talented footballer.

Jonathan Rodriguez came through the youth ranks at Penarol and he enjoyed a great debut season last term, bagging impressive 11 goals in 27 league appearances.

The forward has been in fine form this term as well, making 11 league outings and scoring 4 goals, which proved enough to earn a lucrative move to Portuguese Primeira Liga leaders Benfica.
