Portuguese daily newspaper A Bola understands that Benfica are pondering a January move on River Plate defender Eder Balanta.
The 20-year-old is widely regarded as the hottest prospect to have come out of River’s youth school in recent years, and he is heavily linked with a move to Europe.
According to A Bola, the likes of Barcelona, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, AC Milan and Inter Milan are all keen, but it was Portuguese giants Benfica that made the first concrete move.
The Eagles are currently in talks with the player’s agent Jorge Mendes, hoping to purchase 70% of the defender’s contract.
Even if the youngster has a €30 million release clause in his deal, River Plate seem ready to negotiate his sale for a lot less.
Benfica currently sit tied on points with Primeira Liga leaders Sporting Lisbon, and they are 11/10 favourites for the league title at the moment.
