Benfica bid for Morata

Benfica have officially joined the chase for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, according to TV programme El Chiringuito.

The talented forward hinted a couple of days ago that he could leave los Blancos in search of first team football, with Premier League giants Arsenal and Tottenham believed to be leading the race.

Nevertheless, Portuguese side Benfica were the first to submit an official proposal for the 21-year-old, having offered €7 million for his services.

Namely, with Rodrigo Moreno nearing a switch to Zenit, the Eagles see Morata as a perfect replacement for the forward.

Alvaro Morata has only made one La Liga start this season and he seems to have fallen behind Jese Rodriguez in the pecking order as well at Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid would probably consider cashing in on the youngster, but they are likely to insert a buy-back clause as they usually do with players from their own youth academy.
