Benfica are closing in on the signing of Goncalo Guedes on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers for the second half of the season, according to Fabrizio Romano. At this point, the proposed deal does not include an option for the Portuguese club to make the deal permanent.
Guedes is a product of Benfica’s academy, where he rose through the entire youth setup before reaching the senior squad in the middle of the 2014/15 season. Two years later, he made his way to Paris Saint-Germain, but things didn’t work out there and he was soon shipped out to Valencia, on an initial year-long loan, before the move became a permanent one in the summer of 2018.
Wolves signed him only last summer for a reported fee exceeding €30 million, but it seems the 26-year-old winger is having problems settling in in the Premier League as well. Since the start of the season, the 32-cap Guedes has made 18 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice and assisting once.
