Portuguese daily newspaper O Jogo has learned that Benfica are in pole position to sign Brazilian goalkeeper Julio Cesar from Queens Park Rangers.
The experienced shot-stopper has returned to Loftus Road after his loan deal with Toronto FC came to an end, but chances are he will be leaving London before the summer transfer window is over.
Rangers plan to cash in on the player who has another year left on his contract and latest reports suggest Benfica lead the chase for his signature.
O Jogo understands that the Eagles officials have been trying to negotiate a deal that would see the 34-year-old move to Estadio da Luz, and replace Jan Oblak as the number one goalkeeper.
Some very good displays at the 2014 World Cup proved Julio Cesar still has what it takes to play at the highest level and no doubt he would be an excellent addition to Jorge Jesus’ squad.
