Uruguayan media outlet Republica has suggested that Portuguese giants Benfica are on the verge of signing striker Jonathan Rodriguez from Penarol.
The 21-year-old forward caught the eye of the Eagles with some scintillating performances on domestic stage and he appears set to move to Estadio da Luz.
According to Republica, Benfica have all but agreed to sign the talented footballer for a fee of €3 million.
The Eagles, however, plan to pay special attention to the player’s medical after the striker missed out on a summer switch to Sporting Braga due to certain injury issues.
Jonathan Rodriguez was only handed his senior debut last season, but he has since been in excellent form, scoring 15 goals in 38 league appearances.
The striker has also played himself into the first team plans of Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez, making four appearances in international friendlies and scoring his first goal in the 3-0 triumph over Oman.
