Benfica are on the verge of signing Nigeria Under-20 striker Uche Nwofor, according to A Bola.

Following another disappointing season, Benfica coach Jorge Jesus is widely looking for summer reinforcements, with the latest reports suggesting that the Eagles are set to sign Nigerian striker Uche Nwofor.

The 19-year-old striker will arrive to La Luz virtually for free, since Benfica are only required to pay his current club Enugu Rangers a compensation for trainees.

Benfica scouts spotted the young striker during the latest edition of the Under-20 African Nations Cup played in South Africa and he seems to have done enough to earn a contract at La Luz.

Nwofor was the leading scorer of the competition with four goals, helping Nigeria ultimately win the tournament.

The Eagles have now agreed to pay the aforementioned compensation and have already sent the documents needed to complete the transfer, so we can expect the player to be officially unveiled in the coming days.
