Benfica appear set to lose the services of Darwin Nunez this summer, with a number of top European clubs said to be interested in the services of the 22-year-old Uruguayan forward. Benfica are apparently open to the idea of a sale for the right price, but they would insist any deal to be completed early in the window so they could identify and sign a suitable replacement.
As reported by David Orstein in his weekly column for The Athletic, the player Benfica are currently considering for the role is VfB Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic, with incoming head coach Roger Schmidt believed to be keen on this possibility being pursued. The 24-year-old Austria international has so far scored six goals in 15 Bundesliga appearances for his current club, and is reportedly being watched by the likes of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund as well.
Stuttgart would like Kalajdzic to sign a new contract as his current one enters its final 12 months soon, but that appears unlikely at this point and they would be open to a sale for around €25 million, while Benfica expect €60m for Nunez.
