Portugal champions Benfica have made a formal approach towards the Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen.
The Dutch shot stopper is looking for a more regular playing time ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and could be open to a move away from Camp Nou according to the Spanish media outlet Sport.
Cillessen has been impressive during preseason but Ernesto Valverde is said to be preferring Marc-Andre ter Stegen who is returning from his extended summer holiday.
Having sold their first-team goalkeeper Ederson to Manchester City earlier this season, Benfica are still looking for a worthy replacement and are well aware of Cillessen’s situation at Barcelona.
The Portuguese giants and the Catalan heavyweights could do more business this summer as they look to strengthen their business bond after Nelson Semedo’s move earlier this summer.
Cillessen played second fiddle to German shot stopper ter Stegen last season at Barcelona, making only one La Liga appearance during the 2016/17 season.
