Portuguese giants Benfica are keeping close tabs on Estudiantes midfielder Carlos Joaquin Correa, O Jogo can reveal.

The Eagles are preparing for life without Nicolas Gaitan, who is highly unlikely to remain at Estadio da Luz beyond the current season.

And Benfica officials seem to have identified his compatriot Joaquin Correa as a perfect long-term replacement for the Argentina international.

The 20-year-old midfielder has been on club’s radar for a while, and the scouts have been impressed with his performances for Estudiantes.

Despite his fragile age, Correa has already nailed down a regular starting berth and has so far amassed 49 league appearances.

The youngster has been in fine form this season, having managed 2 goals and 3 assists in 12 league outings.

Meanwhile, his suitors Benfica lead the chase in Portuguese Primeira Liga, sitting three points clear of arch rivals Porto, and are in a good position to defend the league trophy.
