Portuguese daily newspaper O Jogo claims that Benfica are keeping close tabs on Chaves defender Nikola Maras.
The interesting thing is that the Serbian centre-back only joined his new club three weeks ago as he arrived in a €400,000 deal from FK Rad.
However, Maras performed admirably in 3-0 loss to FC Porto and 3-0 victory over Moreirense, and already managed to catch the eye of top clubs.
Namely, O Jogo understands that Benfica scouts were impressed with the centre-back’s performances and they will continue to keep close tabs on the 21-year-old.
The Eagles have plans to rejuvenate their back line since Luisao and Jardel are not getting any younger, with Maras now also on their hit-list.
In spite of his fragile age, the Serbian defender amassed 104 top-flight appearances for FK Rad before he joined Chaves, while earning his first Serbia cap in January 2017.
