Portugal champions Benfica are preparing for life without star performer Alex Grimaldo.
The highly-rated defender has been a target for both clubs from Manchester and is poised to leave Portugal during the January transfer window.
And with Eliseu’s contract set to expire at the end of the year, Benfica are actively working on January reinforcements.
According to Portugal media, Gremio left-back Marcelo Hermes’ signature has already been secured whereas Benfica are also working on the transfer of the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Nico Schulz.
The 23-year-old German international has been closely watched by the Portuguese giants over the last couple of season and even while Schulz had been playing for Hertha Berlin.
Nico Schulz arrived to Borussia Monchengladbach two years ago, and is still struggling to establish himself as the first-choice for the Bundesliga outfit.
After two appearances in his first season at the club, Schulz has this year played seven games for Monchengladbach including a starting place against Barcelona in the Champions League.
