Benfica in shock move for Insua

Portuguese daily Record is reporting that Benfica are preparing a summer bid for Atletico Madrid full-back Emiliano Insua.

With youngster Oscar Melgarejo far from impressing this season, signing an experienced left-back is a priority for the Portuguese giants in the summer transfer window.

According to Record, the Eagles have made Atletico Madrid defender Emiliano Insua their number one target.

However, with the clause in the player’s contract forbidding him to join another Portuguese club on a permanent deal, Benfica hope to sign him on a season-long loan.

Emiliano Insua left Sporting Lisbon in January 2013 to join Atletico Madrid, but he has since made just two league appearances for los Colchoneros.

It appears that Diego Simeone has not been impressed with the player’s qualities and there is every chance he will be allowed to return to Portugal in the summer.

It only remains to be seen whether the Argentine defender will be prepared to sign for Sporting Lisbon’s fierce rivals.
