Benfica have identified three footballers as possible replacements for right-sided defender Maxi Pereira, A Bola has learned.
The 30-year-old will be out of contract in just a week, and he is currently considering a three-year proposal by the club.
Benfica officials aim to be prepared in case Pereira rejects a new deal and they are currently looking at three right-backs.
According to A Bola, CSKA full-back Mario Fernandez is currently the number one target, although he won’t be available on the cheap.
The Brazilian has been in fine form since joining the Russians from Gremio, and he managed impressive 8 assists in 29 league outings last term.
At the same time, the likes of Javier Manquillo and Mayke are also on Benfica’s radar.
As far as Maxi Pereira is concerned, he will probably make a decision on his future after the 2015 Copa America, where Uruguay are 2/1 to upset hosts Chile and qualify for the semi-finals sixth time in a row.
