Portuguese heavyweights Benfica are said to be eyeing a deal for Argentine defender Cristian Lema.
The 27-year-old centre-back is running towards the end of his contract and has already decided not to extend his deal with Belgrano.
Former Quilmes and Tigre defender is keen to test his skills in Europe and his contract situation has already alarmed the likes of Olympiacos, Villarreal and Sevilla, according to reports from Ojogo.
Portuguese giants Benfica are said to have joined the chase as well, despite having just signed Lema’s compatriot German Conti on a five-year deal from Colon on 25 May.
Benfica do not want to pass on an opportunity to further bolster their rank with a quality free agent who will require no transfer fee investments.
Cristian Lema made over 115 competitive appearances for Belgrano, scoring 15 goals during his four-year stay with the club.
