Benfica make Peixoto swoop

Portuguese Liga side Benfica have completed the signing of defender Cesar Peixoto from rivals Sporting Braga, the Arsenalistas confirmed the news through director of football Carlos Freitas.

that the club have successfully completed negotiations with Benfica which will see left-back Cesar Peixoto move to the Estadio da Luz.

While, Braga will receive 400,000 euros for 50% of the player’s sporting rights and the Braga executive explained on Agencia Lusa the process of the negotiations.

“It started a bit murky as the player tried to create futile arguments in an attempt to be released from the club without any return for Braga,”, said Freitas.

“Afterwards, the possibility to negotiate with Sporting was made available and contact was made in a linear and transparent manner. Then Benfica appeared and they tried, at first, an impossibile negotiation which was to sign Cesar Peixoto at no cost.”

“Obviously, Braga did not agree to these conditions and propsed two options in order to complete the transaction – either 250,000 euros and one of their players or pay 400,000 euros up front without any players. The second option was the one that pleased us most.”

It appears that all parties are happy as everyone got what they wanted. The 29-year-old left-back is expected to appear in the Benfica team sheet when they face Italian powerhouse AC Milan tonight.
