Benfica are stepping up their interest in Standard Liege striker Michy Batshuayi, the Belgian club’s president has revealed.
The Eagles are just one of a handful of top European clubs showing interest in the talented forward, who looks set to quit his current employers at the end of the season.
And while the player recently suggested he prefered a move to England or Germany, it appears Benfica are leading the chase at the moment.
Namely, Standard Liege chairman Roland Duchatelet has confirmed to O Jogo that the Eagles have launched a fresh assault on Batshuayi.
The Portuguese giants have contacted Duchatelet in London as he was in the stands at White Hart Lane to watch the Europa League clash between Tottenham and Benfica.
Michy Batshuayi, 20, has bagged 18 goals in 29 league appearances this season and he is likely to become one of the hottest commodities in the summer transfer window.
