According to a recent report from A Bola, Benfica are not going to try and bring Juventus goalkeeper Mattia Perin over to the club during the January transfer window. Benfica were believed to be on the verge of completing the signing of the Italian during the most recent summer transfer window, but a shoulder injury put that potential deal on the shelf. Lately it seemed as if Benfica were ready and willing to make a move once again, with A Bola reporting so, but the club themselves have come out and released a statement indicating that isn’t actually the case.

Bringing in world class stars to the club hasn’t exactly been one of Benfica’s strong points by any stretch of the imagination, and you could even make the argument that they’ve been a feeder club more than anything else. Now, though, they want to put Portuguse football back on the map in a big way.
