Benfica, Porto vying for Raul Jimenez

Portuguese daily newspaper A Bola is reporting that Benfica and FC Porto are locked in the battle for Atletico Madrid forward Raul Jimenez.

The Mexican hasn’t played much since joining los Colchoneros from Club America last summer and chances are he will be farmed out on loan ahead of the new campaign.

According to A Bola, Benfica are in talks with Atletico as they hope to sign the 24-year-old on a season-long loan.

At the same time, bitter rivals FC Porto are keeping close tabs on the Mexican as well seeing as they have yet to recruit a replacement for Jackson Martinez.

Raul Jimenez joined Atletico in a €10 million deal a year ago and has since started just four La Liga fixtures, albeit making another 17 substitute appearances.

He represented Mexico at the 2015 Copa America and did well to score two goals in three matches at the tournament finals.
