Benfica sign Spanish keeper Gago

Benfica have announced the signing of Spanish keeper Roberto Jimenez Gago from Atletico Madrid. The 24 year old stopper joins the Eagles for a fee of 8.5 million euros. He has signed a five year contract that will keep him at Benfica till June 2015.

Gago, a product of the Atletico Madrid youth system, spent the latter half of last season on loan at Real Zaragoza. He has also had previous spells at Gimnastic and Recreativo de Huelva.

Benfica also announced that the player will have a minimum fee release clause of 20 million euros.

The 1.93m Gago has earned caps at all levels between U-17 and U-21 for Spain, but is yet to earn his maiden cap for the national team.
