(GSM) – Benfica are a big step closer to winning the Portuguese title after a narrow win over their nearest rivals Sporting Braga on Saturday.
A lot was at stake in Lisbon as Benfica could extend their lead over Braga to six points, while the away side could close the gap altogether.
The only goal at the Estadio da Luz was scored by Benfica’s Luisao, in the last minute before the break.
As such, Benfica are now six points clear with six games to play.
In Saturday’s other game, fifth-placed Vitoria Guimaraes beat Academica 1-0 to close on Sporting Lisbon, who dropped three points on Friday. The only goal came from Rui Miguel in the 85th minute.
