Veteran Brazilian coach Jose Paulo Rubim beat off 18 other candidates for the Benin coaching post when he was named as the replacement for Michel Dussuyer on Friday.
Rubim, who edged out amongst others experienced coaches Frenchman Pierre Lechantre and Nigerian Stephen Keshi, has extensive experience in African football.
He coached the Liberian national side in 1986, Gabonese club side Port Gentil from 1991-93, has had three spells with Tunisian clubs and also with Algerian side USM Blida from 2005-2006.
He also has coaching experience in China, Portugal, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
Dussuyer was sacked after the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year when they exited after the group stage, and has since taken over as coach of Guinea.
