Inter Milan boss Rafael Benitez has insisted that he is keen to keep Brazilian defender Douglas Maicon at the club.
Maicon has been heavily linked with a move to be runited with former Nerazzurri boss Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid.
“Do I want Maicon to stay? Certainly,” he told Mediaset television.
“He is an important player for us and you can tell that on the field. Last season he did great work for the team and has remarkable attacking qualities.
“As a Coach, I want him in my squad.”
Reports have claimed Maicon is close to joining Real Madrid, but the Spanish side are not prepared to accept the Brazilian’s wage demands.
