Benitez move to Juventus will benefit everybody

Rafael-Benitez_Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is living on the edge at the moment. The Spaniard is set for talks with new Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton over his future at the club.

Benitez has refused to respond to speculation over his future.

Promises

Benitez is disappointed that he hasn’t spoken to Broughton over his summer plans yet but has revealed that he wishes to remain at Anfield.

However he believes American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks have broken promises. He will need reassurances that the club will be able to strengthen this summer. All signs point to Benitez leaving Merseyside in the next few months.

Liverpool fans would say he has had enough time to build a team and this year the team have gone backwards. It seems the general consensus among Liverpool fans is that it’s time for change. I don’t know many fans that are still backing the Spaniard.

Change

It may benefit all parties if Rafa Benitez leaves the club this summer. Juventus have shown a constant interest in the Spanish tactician and it looks like they could get their man this summer. Benitez leaving for Juventus would save Liverpool millions in compensation.

They would have to pay Benitez a massive compensation package if he was sacked due to him still being on a lengthy contract at Anfield. With Liverpool’s mounting debts that could prove a huge relief.

The people behind the scenes at Anfield will not exactly be beating off any potential suitors as it’s in the clubs financial interests for Benitez to join Juventus. I’m surprised they not positively encouraging other clubs to take him off their hands.

Low

This season Liverpool have accrued the second least amount of points since the Spaniard took over the club. The previous lowest total was in 2005 when the Reds finished fifth behind Everton in the league but won the Champions League.

He may have won the Champions League but he hasn’t delivered the trophy that most Liverpool fans crave the Premier League title. He hasn’t won the Premier League title and for a club the size of Liverpool that is unacceptable.

Style

Rafa Benitez is a very pragmatic manager. His style has suited European and cup football better than the hustle and bustle of Premier League. His footballing style would suit Italian football down to the ground.

Crisis

Juventus have been in somewhat of a crisis this season and have struggle in Serie A. The club have failed to qualify for the Champions League next season and are currently sitting in seventh position in the Italian league.

This summer the Juventus owners are believed to have promised major investment in the team. They have a new president in the shape of Andrea Agnelli and he is set to spend big in Turin. That means the new manager will have a substantial transfer budget.

I don’t see how Benitez could turn down the chance of resurrecting such a major club. Juventus have good foundations. They are European sleeping giants and maybe Benitez is the man to wake them up.

Reputation

Rafa Benitez’s reputation has taken a beating this season due to Liverpool’s awful season. On the continent his stock is still very high. Even Spanish giants Real Madrid are believed to be interested in acquiring his services.

Juve is a more likely destination than Los Blancos though. At Juventus he may be able to restore his flagging reputation and win some trophies in the process. He may also have the added bonus of not having to compete with the ‘Special One’ at Inter with Mourinho looking likely to move to Real Madrid.

Legend or Failure?

It remains to be seen how history will remember Rafa Benitez’s spell at Liverpool. He will of course be remembered for Liverpool’s 2005 European Cup victory. On the flipside he will also be remembered for the fact that he couldn’t manage to help the club to the Premier League title.

I believe in order for Liverpool to progress then they need a new start. The club are going nowhere fast at the moment and a new owner and a new boss are needed to revive Liverpool. If these changes don’t happen then Liverpool could stagnate.

Should Rafa Benitez leave Liverpool and join Juventus?
