Rafa Benitez is determined to finalize a deal bringing Tottenham striker Robbie Keane to Anfield by Monday, according to The Daily Mirror. The Liverpool boss has had a frustrating summer after; despite having already brought in three players, he has repeatedly failed to bring in his prime target, Gareth Barry. Now, he looks to compensate for that by completing the signing of £18 million Robbie Keane.
Yesterday, Tottenham reported both Manchester United and Liverpool for their public pursuits of Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane respectively, but Daniel Levy’s comments must have encouraged both clubs. Following his statements that both clubs have behaved themselves in a disgraceful manner, Levy went on to say that it would be hard to keep an unhappy player at the club, according to The Times.
According to The Daily Mirror, Benitez was given further encouragement to continue his chase for Robbie Keane when Juande Ramos admitted that he needs to balance his books after a summer of heavy spending.
Tottenham have already bought Gomes, dos Santons, Modric and Bostock and are believed to be targeting David Bentley, but they are yet to make any significant sales.
