New Napoli boss Rafael Benitez is hoping to lure Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel to Stadio San Paolo, reports Il Corriere dello Sport.
Signing a high-profile defender is a priority for the Azzurri at the moment and they look ready to pursue their interest in the Slovakian centre-back.
With the player expressing his desire to leave in the summer, he could prove to be a much cheaper alternative to club’s other targets.
Martin Skrtel has lost his place in the starting line-up at Anfield this season and he is unhappy to have been dropped from the side without a proper reason.
As a result, he is hoping to leave the Reds in search of first team football and there is every chance he will be tempted by the prospect of joining the Italian giants.
The 28-year-old has spent last five and a half years at Anfield, making 151 Premier League appearances for Liverpool and scoring 7 goals.
