Market: Carbone to be next Leeds manager
Odds: 7/1 @ Coral
With Brian McDermott having left his post as Leeds manager, owner Massimo Cellino is expected to appoint Benito Carbone as his successor. The Italian manager, 42, joined the Whites this year with an ambiguous job title. Upon his initial arrival, it was unknown whether he would be the head of the academy, or assistant to the manager at the time.
However, now McDermott is out of the picture, for a second time after Cellino tried to sack him during his takeover a number of months ago, Carbone now looks primed to succeed him, with Coral giving odds of 7/1 to be the next Leeds manager.
Carbone has managed exclusively in Italy prior to the move back to England. The former Inter Milan and Aston Villa midfielder has had spells in charge of Pavia, Varese and St. Christophe. But with Cellino likely to be keen on a fellow Italian to work with in the transfer market and with the Leeds players, Carbone could be given the biggest job of his career.
However, he does face stiff competition from former Watford coach and ex-Forest Green manager Dave Hockaday. Gianluca Festa and Gianfranco Zola are two other names in the running.
