Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema claims Manchester United tried to sign him on several occasions.
The Red Devils tried to sign the French international in 2009, but he eventually opted for Real Madrid.
Nonetheless, the English Premier League club are still interested in the highly rated forward, who now reveals United attempted to sign him on several occasions over the last few years.
“The rumours about my future are common, every summer it’s the same that I will be going to this club and that club,” Benzema was quoted as saying in The Sun.
“But I am very happy at Real Madrid and the thought about leaving has never crossed my mind. I know Manchester United have tried to sign me for the past three or four seasons.”
The 24-year-old joined Real Madrid in a €35 million deal from Lyon in July 2009, but has had a rocky start to his career at Santiago Bernabeu.
The player, nonetheless, continued to work hard and has managed to earn a starting berth under Jose Mourinho.
Benzema has really exploded this season, having scored 21 goals in La Liga and 7 more in the Champions League.
The former Lyon star is set to lead the attack as France square off against England in their opening game at Euro 2012.
