(GSM) – Dimitar Berbatov admits he fell short in his quest to find his best form for Manchester United this season. However, the Bulgaria striker insists he wants to stay at Old Trafford.

Berbatov joined United from Spurs in 2008 but has not been able to establish himself in United’s first-team. But the striker is still keen to prove his worth and silence the critics.

“People have not have seen the real Berbatov this season. I wish I could have done more.

“At Spurs I scored more goals with less problems – and now at United it is very difficult for me.

“But I am calm about my future.

“The rumours surrounding me don’t affect me.

“I have a deal and nobody has told me that I do not enter into plans for next season.

“My relationship with the manager is normal, like any other professional in the squad.

“I am here because he wanted me, this is very important. I work every day to perfect my game and to play at weekends.

“But it is not easy to offer the maximum without playing more minutes.

“At Tottenham I played with a different system in comparison with United.

“So it’s impossible to compare my work. And I am not worried by the critics.

“In football to be a forward is hard because people analyse errors more than successes.

“Wayne has had a sensational season and scored 34 goals and I think that we are compatible playing alongside each other.

“But if the coach decides to play with only one forward I understand that Wayne Rooney is first choice.”
