Galatasaray president Unal Aysal has confirmed the Istanbul side is considering a January move for Manchester United’s Dimitar Berbatov.
The Bulgarian striker’s contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season, leading to speculation that the 30-year-old’s time with the Premier League champions could soon end as he has struggled to gain a first-team place under Sir Alex Ferguson this campaign.
Galatasaray’s September signing Sercan Yildirim has been largely disappointing since his move, and speaking to Hurriyet, Unal confirmed that Berbatov is a potential target.
“We’re not just looking at Berbatov: we’re interested in a number of players. Yes, we’re thinking of forwards, but now is far too early,” Aysal said.
“We can only get in contact and decide at the end of December, when the time comes. We have four or five players in mind.”
Despite their 0-0 draw with newly-promoted Mersin Idman Yurdu on Saturday, Galatasaray sits in third place, just three points behind city rivals Fenerbahce.
